Today, Mercury turns retrograde. This most famous of planetary phenomena is all about re-visiting, re-turning, re-peating, re-doing. I re-turned to lecture notes from classes I’ve taught, specifically ALCHEMY OF THE WORD and MEDIUM AND MESSENGER, in order to write the below post—for subscribers only—winding and deranged notes on Mercury’s upcoming trip through Sagittarius, the mutable (double-bodied) signs in astrology, high and low mind, mediums, and more——
The planet/god/substance called Mercury is so ungraspable and tricky, in part, because he turns retrograde (appears to move backwards) more than any other celestial entity—thrice per year. During these times, Mercury goes to the underworld. Drops away from the sun, becomes less available to us, then meets with the sun and has a revelation, goes back under the rays again, and emerges altered, as a different version.
What he does while away we can’t really know. We can only note the movements of our own minds…
