Who can wait quietly while the mud settles? Who can remain still until the moment of action? — Tao Te Ching

This world is the closed door. It is a barrier. And at the same time it is the way through. — Simone Weil

The moon is waxing in Gemini, two days after its exalted newness in Taurus, where planets are stacked up as I write this. Venus is there—-near to the sun but not burnt up, totally enclosed in her sturdy springtime home. It’s a comedown from April’s chaos, and a taking-shape—Taurus holding space to cultivate. Mud settling, etc. An afterparty, or after the party. After one of the busiest, most stressful, and most joyous months of my life (10+ days MIA from Cosmic Edges—the longest in forever, but back to normalposting this week) I rewatched The Beguiled (dir. Sofia Coppola, 2017), where all the images in today’s newsletter are pulled from. Coppola’s Taurean sunlight-through-leaves, shiny antebellum interiors, mushrooms, stony faces and lace, creepypretty solitudes. Also: gardening, foraging, kinds of war, a backdrop of shots, shrooms as cure and poison, and those deceptively calm moments, what alchemy dubs “women’s work and child’s play”—a lunar distillation and illumination of melancholy—clearer light to prima materia’s black sun: playful and painful. The horoscopes below are light-centric screen grabs plus text, for now through the full flower moon on May 23. Enjoy—-
