We begin again and again. Four times a year: a new season. In astrology, the signs that sit at these openings are called cardinal. Tonight, the sun will enter Cancer, the first (cardinal) waters of the zodiac—wombs, growth, shells and enclosures. The longest day, maximum sun. The cardinal cross (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is teeming with beginnings. Eyes and mouths open, dynamic, moving ceaselessly towards experience. The cardinal signs: initiations, dynamism, risk.
