At the start of Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark (1987), Caleb lies on the ground as the sun lies low in the sky, sitting waxlike on the line. Then the camera shakes as Caleb drives and the sun plummets. Watching Near Dark again, I realized the desert might be the best place for a vampire movie, as the drama of the horizon
