VOID OF COURSES: THE SIGNS /// ASTROLOGY READINGS
“I would have liked to imagine with you the scene of that other archive after the earthquake and after the aprés-coup of its aftershocks. This is indeed where we are.” — Derrida, Archive Fever
Still Pisces season—-flow and dissolve—stream and scroll—and again, the differences and overlaps between the kind of repetition that saves, and the kind that makes us go insane. One book opens another, as the alchemists say, so I guess I’ll talk about what I’ve been reading, plus astrological weathers today and this week—the moon’s waning…a whole crew of planets in the ocean of Pisces and tomorrow, Venus in Aquarius squares Uranus in Taurus. It’s getting closer—tense, passionate and unexpected Uranian shock waves—-blue and electric and dream-inducing, sent into the planet of love and art and hospitality at a harsh, action-provoking angle. Our hospitalities tested and broken open. Who are we letting into our energetic and literal homes? Who gets kicked out? Venus gathers together—-and so does the archive, as Derrida tells us—one of its origins being ARKHEION: “initially a house, a domicile, no address, the residence of the superior magistrates, the archons, those who commanded.”
How a house becomes a museum, private to public. Records, repetition, and loss. This week, the contents shake. Like, what if Freud had e-mail, Derrida wonders in Archive Fever, which I reread last month on a whim. Spaces for storage: the alchemical vessel, the coffin, the prison cell, the jar…..Derrida speaks of the many quakes the archive undergoes. I picture Freud’s famous couch sprayed silver then broken up and sent flying through the air in little bits. The pieces land later on sand, stranded…..
